Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is a framework for our school and our community, to collectively support the wellbeing of every student by:
- defining and teaching all students what is expected of them
- encouraging positive behaviour, as students have been taught what is expected of them
- staff delivering consistent responses to student learning and behaviour
- students feeling safe and cared for at school
- data, systems and practices driving the process.
A behaviour expectation matrix has been developed, using simple language and clear visual links, to support our students in every area of the school. In addition, we developed three core values that are the building blocks of our matrix:
We are Safe
We are Respectful
We are Learners
Units of work to support the All Settings area in the matrix have been developed and students are introduced to an expectation such as ‘Safe Hands’ and explore why this expectation is important. Students then complete a variety of learning experiences that enhance their understanding of what the expectation may look like for them and their peers in the classroom and on the playground. Teachers then support the students to practise these expectations in all settings across the school.
Further development of teaching and practicing expected behaviours in other school settings and encouraging expected behaviours will continue to be developed this year, while embedding the All Settings behaviour expectations.
